Nutsedges resemble grass and are often referred to as “nutgrass”; however, they aren’t grasses but are true sedges.  The two most commom species of nutsedge are yellow nutsedge and purple nutsedge.  Their leaves are thicker and stiffer than most grasses and are arranged in sets of three at their base.
